Ando
Hiroshige: 1797-1858 (80+ images, identified by title)
Born in Edo (Tokyo), his father was a samurai and firewarden. Both his
parents died when he was twelve. At age fourteen he was accepted to
the famous Utagawa painting school, and in 1812 he formally took the name
Utagawa Hiroshige. Renowned for his stunning landscape prints,
he was very successful in Japan and in Europe. He was one of the most
prolific of the Ukiyo-e artists.

Katsushika Hokusai: 1760—1849 (50+ images,
identified by title)
Painter and printmaker born near Edo. Created about 30,000 highly
original works, of which his landscapes are most famous. He was
influenced by Dutch and French pastoral landscapes, bringing perspective and
shading to Japanese landscapes. Often credited with introducing
the serenity of nature to Japanese art, and was among the first to paint the
common people in his woodblocks.
